frequently asked questions – pressure washing

Do I need to prepare the area before you come?

Apart from the obvious of removing cars from driveways, No preparation is required by the customer. We will move to safety any garden furniture, pots, ornaments etc and will put them back when finished.

Do you need electricity and a water supply when you come?

We use industrial petrol-powered pressure washers; however we will need a water supply that we can use throughout the clean. While an outdoor one is preferred, we have the adapters required if an indoor one is the only option.

Do I need to be at home for you to clean my driveway / patio?

No, we just need access to the area being worked upon and a water supply.

Why do you need to come again after cleaning to re-sand my driveway?

A block paving driveway gets its strength from the sand that strengthens the joins in between the bricks. Apart from just being an aesthetic requirement, re-sanding the patio or driveway after jet washing will strengthen it structurally. We need to make sure the area cleaned has been given time to fully dry before any re-sanding can be done.

Do you have insurance for using a pressure washer and cleaning driveways / patios?

Yes. We have full public liability insurance & damage to property worked on (something a lot of companies don't have) this covers us for all our cleaning services and can be viewed on request.

CAN STAINS BE REMOVED?

Mould, mildew, algae, paint, mortar and even some oil stains can often be completely removed. We will advise on individual stains as age and the porosity of the material can have an effect on the outcome.

How long will it take?

With the high pressure equipment we use it takes a fraction of the time that would be required by a domestic jet-washer. The high-tech design of our low level rotary cleaner keeps the mess under control and away from adjacent areas. Areas of 150 – 400sq meters can be completed in a day this depends on how dirty & what type of surface it is to be cleaned, although a follow up visit will be required for any re-sanding that may be required.

Do you use cleaning chemicals?

We do not use dangerous or harmful cleaning chemicals, but we do use safe environmentally friendly cleaning agents when necessary.

Can I do this with my own Pressure Washer?

Many DIY pressure washers are not adequate or able to produce the very high pressure that is required to achieve the quality results that we are able to with our professional high pressure washing equipment.

Using many DIY pressure washing machines for long periods of time or used on large areas are prone to motor or pump failure, which will have to be repaired or replaced which, will be very expensive. Therefore it may be more cost effective for you to use Impact Cleaning to clean it for you.

Using inferior quality pressure washing machines will take much longer to complete a job, and use more water than necessary and will therefore not be cost effective for you.

Will the chemicals damage my plants, pets or have an adverse affect on my driveway?

No, we do not use any chemicals whilst general cleaning. Our equipment is powerful enough that the cold water jets take care of 99% of any stains. For persistent oil stains we may need to apply a non toxic de-greasing agent but this is done manually to the localised area only.
